GRAND BLUE HERON - THE BIRTH OF A NEW BIRD

Back in 2011, Belgian underground power-threesome Hitch decided to call it quits after a decade and a half of recording and playing. This was truly a sad day. Men wept loud, openly and without shame, women smote themselves to the ground in a frenzy and scores of illegitimate children fathered by the Hitch crew on their many tours now faced starvation and financial deprivation in the wake of plummeting royalty income. Ach, these poor souls should have steered clear of despair and have known that blood is truly thicker than water, for it was written that all members of Hitch would one day be found back on a stage (near you actually, check the concerts page here ...).

Shortly after the split, rhythm backboners Paul & Olivier joined hands again for the short lived project 'Tarn'. To say that this band died a silent death would be nothing short of a lie, because they were incredibly fucking loud with their two basses and battery assault style music. Nevertheless, five shows into its juvenile existence, all members had to come to terms with the fact that their musical insanity didn't much go anywhere but in the direction of an early grave and so they too called it quits.
Olivier teetered off to a project called 'For Four Weekends' and Paul was asked to join the noise-prog collective 'A Clean Kitchen Is A Happy Kitchen' and released two albums with them, before they, in turn, went into a coma.

Ever since the split of Hitch, he had taken it upon himself to learn how to play the guitar. And so he learned to play a bit, wrote some songs and flung some of his demos on interwebz where they were there for the world to find. On a truly good and sunny day, a brave man in the city of Ghent heard these songs and wanted Paul to come and perform them live. "Without a band this bold task will surely be too difficult for one man alone" he thought, and thus he called upon Olivier to join him in playing this one show of his songs. Olivier reached out to his former "For Four Weekends" buddy Arthur (formerly of Moonlake) for additional guitar slinging and since mutual friend Pedro fit the description of 'must play bass and have funky haircut', he was asked to join as well. The first show lead to a second, the second to a third ... Soon after the first shows, the original songs by Paul were more and more replaced by group-penned material, et voila: Ten months of rehearsals and one recorded album later, Grand Blue Heron is about to unfold its wings from the nest at London's Jezus Factory Records . Watch out for the bird, people. For It is coming.
